Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is on his way to Bermuda today to deliver a eulogy at the funeral of businessman Peter Green.
Green was a close family friend of Trudeau’s, and according to the National Post, his family owns a luxurious estate in Jamaica where Trudeau has stayed at no charge.
Trudeau’s previous vacation to this upscale Caribbean destination sparked controversy earlier this year as Canadians were feeling the pinch of rising living costs.
The ethics watchdog in Parliament decided not to investigate Trudeau’s repeated trips to the island villa after confirming the strong friendship between the two men.
Former Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau also made headlines for his visits to the same estate dating back to the mid-1970s.
According to his office’s published schedule, the Prime Minister is expected to return to Ottawa later today.
The late Trudeau was also the godfather of Green’s son, Alexander, who spoke at his father’s funeral on October 3, 2000.
