Public service unions have announced their intention to initiate additional legal challenges and grievances against new regulations requiring federal employees to work from the office at least three days a week.
These unions are vowing a “summer of discontent” in response to the policy recently introduced by the federal government.
Chris Aylward, president of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, has stated that the NDP is in support of the unions and anticipates the party will address the issue with the Liberals.
During a press conference on Parliament Hill, Aylward refrained from calling for the NDP to withdraw its support for the minority government.
The new guidelines, which also mandate that executives must be in the office for a minimum of four days per week, will come into effect on September 9.
Anita Anand, President of the Treasury Board, has asserted that the government holds the authority to implement these changes and that hybrid work arrangements are not included in the collective agreements with the unions.
