Rachel Morin’s family have removed the wanted flyers for her killer on the trail where her body was found and replaced them with flowers, reclaiming the area in her memory after an arrest was made in her murder.
Matt McMahon, the father of Morin’s 18-year-old daughter, expressed that returning to the trail where she was tragically killed almost a year ago now feels different after the news of the suspect’s arrest.
McMahon emotionally shared with Fox 45 News near the spot where Morin’s body was discovered, “I brought flowers and placed them on the rock at the trailhead, and I took down the flyers with Victor’s sketch. I felt like up to this point Victor had taken this trail from us, but now this trail belongs to Rachel again.”
McMahon described feelings of joy, relief, and gratitude upon receiving the late-night call from police confirming the arrest of Morin’s suspected killer, Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez.
As the search for the killer has ended, McMahon revealed that Faye, their daughter, is expecting a child later this year. He expressed both happiness and sadness, noting that Rachel should be there to share this moment.
Law enforcement disclosed that Martinez-Hernandez, an El Salvadoran gang member and illegal migrant, had been living unlawfully in the US and was arrested for Morin’s murder, among other crimes.
Martinez-Hernandez had evaded border detection and committed violent crimes before being apprehended in Oklahoma. He is now facing charges for Morin’s death and the extradition process is underway.
