The arrest of the suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Bronx dad
The individual accused of stabbing Bronx dad Ronald Gomez-Mesa to death in a road rage incident was apprehended by the NYPD’s Warrants Squad on Thursday, leading the victim’s family to demand justice for their loved one.
Clement Boateng, 36, a resident of the same neighborhood where the murder took place on July 2, was charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon following his arrest at 10 a.m., according to the police.
“We’re relieved they found the killer but we want justice,” expressed Ronaysi Gomez, the victim’s sister, in an exclusive interview with The Post. “We don’t want him out of prison. He can’t be let out. A killer can’t be out on the street or he could kill again.”
Boateng, believed to have ties to the River Park Towers gang, has a history of four prior arrests, the most recent of which dates back to September 22, 2016, for charges including criminal possession of a weapon, as per law enforcement sources.
His apprehension for the road rage incident came shortly after loved ones bid farewell to Gomez-Mesa in his homeland, a difficult moment for the family.
“It was hard laying Ronald to rest,” Ronaysi shared, noting that her brother leaves behind a three-year-old daughter, Rosalia. “We still don’t believe he’s gone. No one can believe it, not his friends or family.”
“My mom is still devastated. This is hard for her. Ronald was the child who looked most like her. They were practically twins.”
The violent altercation took place in broad daylight following a minor car accident outside a deli in the Bronx, where the situation escalated rapidly, leading to the tragic outcome.
Following the accident, a male individual arrived at the scene and began attacking bystanders after being provoked, ultimately resulting in the fatal stabbing of Gomez-Mesa, who was simply trying to defend himself.
Gomez-Mesa tried to defend himself but was overpowered by Boateng, who fatally stabbed him in the chest, leaving the victim’s family devastated.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Gomez-Mesa succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a grieving family and community.
Gomez-Mesa, one of seven siblings, had recently achieved a milestone by obtaining his TLC driver’s license, a step towards securing a better future for his daughter, according to his sister.
Having moved to the US at a young age, Gomez-Mesa had built a life for himself and his family in Morris Heights, where he resided with his parents, sister, and her children.
Just a week before his tragic death, Gomez-Mesa had celebrated passing his TLC driver’s license test, a testament to his dedication to providing for his loved ones.
