Nearly two decades after Scott Peterson was convicted of killing his pregnant wife, he is back in the spotlight with a new theory that he hopes could clear his name.
Peterson, now 49, has recently appeared in his first on-camera interview for Peacock’s new documentary “Face to Face with Scott Peterson” since being sentenced to life without parole for the murder of his wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn son, Connor.
Despite maintaining his innocence, Peterson claims that a burglary in their Modesto, Calif., neighborhood led to his wife’s disappearance, as reported by E! News.
According to Peterson, “There was a burglary across the street from our home. And I believe that Laci went over there to see what was going on, and that’s when she was taken.”
Laci disappeared on Christmas Eve 2002, and her body was found in the San Francisco Bay months later in April, along with the body of their unborn child.
Peterson accuses investigators of withholding evidence that could have potentially cleared him of the murder charges during his trial.
He expresses regret for not testifying at his trial and is determined to speak out for his family.
In January, the Los Angeles Innocence Project took on Peterson’s case, arguing that new evidence could prove his innocence.
The documentary also explores Peterson’s extramarital affair with Amber Frey, which was considered a possible motive for the murder.
Peterson is appealing to the public to question the investigation that led to his conviction and imprisonment.
Prosecutors portrayed Peterson as a man who wanted to escape his marriage and responsibilities, leading him to kill his wife.
Originally sentenced to death, Peterson’s sentence was later overturned by California’s Supreme Court in 2020.
