The senator revealed that new evidence suggests local law enforcement snipers did not have a clear line of sight to the shooter. The conflicting narratives surrounding the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally persist, with questions remaining unanswered. Sen. Charles Grassley questioned the validity of the photos presented by acting U.S. Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe Jr., which allegedly showed the entire rooftop where the shooter was located. However, local officers on the scene disputed this claim. Grassley’s letter highlighted discrepancies in the angles depicted in the photos and the actual placement of the local snipers. The senator obtained testimonies and photos from local law enforcement that refute Rowe’s assertions. These new pieces of evidence challenge the narrative that local law enforcement was primarily responsible for allowing the shooter access to the rooftop. Additionally, photos provided by Beaver County’s ESU team show a different perspective of the events that unfolded that day. Grassley’s investigation aims to uncover the truth behind the conflicting accounts of the incident.
Senator Charles Grassley Demands Answers from Secret Service Regarding Security Failure
Specifically, Senator Grassley is requesting the Secret Service to explain and share all records pertaining to the placement of local snipers and the security coverage of the AGR building. This includes a detailed site diagram outlining the positions of all local and federal law enforcement counter snipers, as well as the shooter’s positions throughout the day.
Senator Grassley raised questions about the assignment of counter-snipers within the AGR complex, emphasizing the need for clarity on why they were positioned inside the building rather than outside. He inquired about the approval and instructions given for their placement.
The senator also expressed concerns regarding the communication between the Secret Service and local law enforcement leading up to the attempted assassination. He questioned who informed the Secret Service about the building’s security coverage and who was involved in the referenced ‘face-to-face’ meeting mentioned in Rowe’s testimony.
Additional inquiries were made regarding the actions of federal agents at the Trump rally, including whether any federal agent present at the event observed individuals on the AGR building roof before the shooting occurred.
The Secret Service has been given until August 16 to respond to these inquiries. As of now, the agency has not provided a comment in response to the request.
