Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina, a Republican, stated that he anticipates the former President to reveal his choice for Vice President within the next 60 days.
Despite being considered a potential running mate for former President Donald Trump this year, Sen. Tim Scott and President Trump did not discuss the matter during their recent conversation.
Over the weekend, President Trump held a fundraising event in Palm Beach, Florida, where potential Vice Presidential candidates addressed wealthy donors. Senator Scott’s name has frequently been mentioned as a top contender for the position.
However, Senator Scott confirmed that the topic of Vice President was not broached during his discussions with President Trump. They focused instead on criticizing Joe Biden’s policies and praising the successes of the Trump administration.
Senator Scott expressed confidence that President Trump will make his Vice Presidential selection known in the coming months. He was among several Republican leaders attending the Palm Beach event, which some view as an audition for the Vice Presidential role.
Other prominent figures present included Senator J.D. Vance, Senator Marco Rubio, Governor Kristi Noem, Governor Doug Burgum, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, and Congressman Byron Donalds.
Details of the discussions at the fundraiser have not been disclosed to the public.
During the interview, Senator Scott avoided directly answering whether he would accept the outcome of the 2024 election if President Trump were to lose.
The Republican Party remains divided over the results of the 2020 election, with allegations of widespread voter fraud in key states.
When asked about acknowledging a potential reelection of President Joe Biden, Senator Scott simply stated, “The 47th president of the United States will be Donald Trump,” declining to elaborate further.
Senator Scott’s participation at the Palm Beach event comes in the wake of Governor Noem losing favor among Republicans due to controversial statements in her memoir. This development has potentially bolstered Senator Scott’s position as a frontrunner for the Vice Presidential nomination.
President Trump has yet to announce his running mate for the 2024 election, distinguishing him as the sole major candidate without a Vice Presidential pick.
Vice President Kamala Harris is slated to continue as President Biden’s running mate in 2024, while Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has selected attorney Nicole Shanahan as his Vice President.
