On June 11, primaries will be held in Nevada, Maine, South Carolina, and North Dakota, with Ohioans also having a special Congressional election to look forward to. In these states, voters will be casting their ballots for various positions such as governorship, U.S. Senate seats, U.S. House races, state legislature slots, and local government positions. In Ohio, a special election will be held to complete Rep. Bill Johnson’s term, with Republican state Sen. Michael Rulli facing off against Democrat Michael Kripchak.
In North Dakota, Governor Doug Burgum is not seeking re-election, leading to a Republican primary between three-term Rep. Kelly Armstrong and Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller to take on Democrat Merrill Piepkorn in November. In South Carolina, Rep. Nancy Mace is facing a tough challenge from Catherine Templeton for the Congressional District 1 seat, with support from Kevin McCarthy and Donald Trump respectively.
The situation is different in Nevada, where Republicans are confident in winning at least one, if not all three, Democrat-held House seats. In the Las Vegas-area districts, which have been traditionally Democratic, the races are expected to be competitive. There has been little polling on Nevada’s House races, with former President Trump leading President Joe Biden in the state. With a number of candidates vying for different positions, the races in Nevada are expected to be closely watched. The incumbent’s campaign in CD 4 has raised $3.34 million, spent $1.545 million, and has $1.857 million in cash as of its May 22 FEC filing.
In the GOP primary for CD 4, three Republicans are vying for the seat: David Flippo, a war veteran and small business owner; John Lee, former North Las Vegas Mayor endorsed by former President Trump; and Bruce Frazey, a lawyer-accountant.
As of the May 22 FEC filing, Mr. Flippo’s campaign raised $922,333, spent $873,667, and had $48,666 in cash. Mr. Lee raised $850,472 and had $100,392 in the bank. Mr. Frazey did not raise enough to meet FEC reporting requirements.
The Maine Senate race is set, with Sen. Angus King seeking a third term against Demi Kouzounas, a Republican, and David Costello, a Democrat. In CD 2 of Maine, former NASCAR driver Austin Theriault is facing state Rep. Michael Soboleski in the GOP primary, with the winner potentially determining control of the House next year.
Former President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson have endorsed Mr. Theriault, who has a significant financial advantage over Mr. Soboleski. In the May 22 FEC filing, Mr. Theriault raised $1.2 million compared to Mr. Soboleski’s $117,000.
Rep. Jared Golden, a three-term Democrat in CD 2, is running unopposed in the primary. In CD 1 of Maine, Rep. Chellie Pingree is also running unopposed, with Republicans Andrew Piantidosi and Ronald C. Russell competing for the seat.
