A group of thieves armed with sledgehammers and hammers stole $800,000 worth of necklaces during a daring jewelry heist in Queens last week, according to police reports.
The incident took place at ABID Jewelers in Jackson Heights around 6:20 p.m. on Friday. The three masked thieves smashed through the store’s window and made off with the jewelry.
After the robbery, the thieves fled the scene in a black Jeep, later abandoning it at 72nd Street and 35th Avenue. They then switched to a black sedan and drove off in an unknown direction.
The NYPD revealed that the Jeep used in the crime was reported stolen. Two days later, the same group attempted to break into Pyramids Jewelry II in Brooklyn but were unsuccessful in shattering the window.
They fled the scene in a Honda Civic with Pennsylvania license plates reading LKH8653. Surveillance footage from the initial heist was released by the police in hopes of identifying and apprehending the suspects.
