On June 9, first responders successfully rescued a kite surfer from a secluded California beach after a private helicopter pilot noticed the word “help” spelled out in rocks.
Footage shared by fire rescue teams on X showcased the dramatic rescue operation, with a responder being lowered from a hovering helicopter onto the narrow Davenport Landing beach, located approximately 12 miles north of Santa Cruz.
The surfer was securely strapped to a rescue line connected to the helicopter and safely lifted to higher ground on a bluff overlooking the beach, as detailed in the social media post.
“The beach is quite isolated, making access challenging,” mentioned CalFire’s San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit on X. “Additionally, the tide was rising.”
The surfer, identified only as a male, was confirmed to be unharmed and did not require medical attention, according to CalFire.
