The second Taiwanese volunteer soldier has passed away in combat while supporting Ukraine in battle. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the soldier’s death on October 3, but did not disclose his name, the date of his death, or where he was killed. The soldier was fighting alongside Ukrainian troops and the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine, a battalion of volunteer soldiers from various nations. The ministry is providing assistance to the soldier’s family to facilitate the return of his remains. This marks the second Taiwanese soldier to die in combat in the Russia-Ukraine war, following the death of Tseng Sheng-kuang in November of the previous year. Foreign nationals have volunteered to fight for Ukraine after President Zelenskyy’s call for support in February 2022. The formation of the International Legion allows foreigners to join the Ukrainian military, with citizens from 55 countries volunteering to serve.
