Joseph Malinowski, a one-legged, sailboat-dwelling Florida man known as “Lieutenant Dan,” found himself in a boatload of trouble when he was arrested by Tampa Police for having an unregistered vessel.
The police also cited him for not having a device to discharge sewage from his 20-foot sailboat, creating a public health hazard, as reported by WTSP.com.
Despite warnings from the police, Malinowski, who was recently hailed as a “cult hero” by fans, refused to leave the dock where his sailboat was parked.
Additionally, he had two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court and trespassing in a city park.
Malinowski rose to fame when TikTok videos surfaced of his decision to stay on his sailboat during Hurricane Milton, earning him the nickname “Lieutenant Dan” after the character in the movie “Forrest Gump.”
After being “rescued” during the storm, he was taken to a shelter on October 9, as confirmed by Tampa Mayor Jane Castor.
