Residents must vacate the hotel by 10 a.m. on Sept. 12 as Texas authorities move to shut down the Gateway Hotel in El Paso due to code violations and criminal activity involving Tren de Aragua gang members. The lawsuit filed by El Paso County Attorney Christina Sanchez names the hotel, Gigante Enterprises LLC, and owner Howard Yun as defendants. The gang, known for its criminal activities, has been occupying the hotel since at least June. A temporary injunction granted by District Judge Maria Salas-Mendoza will close the hotel pending a Dec. 9 hearing for a permanent injunction. Residents have until 10 a.m. on Sept. 12 to vacate the premises. The Aurora Police Department did not respond to The Epoch Times’ request for a tour of the affected buildings.
In a statement on Facebook on Sept. 11, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman and Public Safety Chair Danielle Jurinsky detailed the city’s efforts to combat the presence of the Venezuelan gang in their city. They mentioned that well before the issue gained national attention, the Aurora police had been making arrests related to criminal activities with suspected connections to the gang.
The statement also noted that the presence of Tren de Aragua in Aurora is limited to specific properties, which the city has been addressing for months through various measures.
