A Paris, Texas, father has been charged with attempted capital murder after allegedly giving his infant child gasoline to drink, according to the police.
The Paris Police Department informed Fox News Digital that 24-year-old Edgar James Bridgemon was also charged with evading arrest.
Officers were called to the 1300 block of Pine Bluff Street on Saturday to assist Paris Emergency Services.
It was reported that Bridgemon allegedly gave a 4-month-old infant gasoline to drink.
Upon identifying the father, officers observed Bridgemon fleeing on foot. He was apprehended after a short chase.
Police stated that Bridgemon confessed to giving the infant gasoline with the intention of ending the child’s life.
He was arrested for attempted capital murder and subsequently processed and detained.
A judge set Bridgemon’s bond at $255,000 – $250,000 for attempted capital murder and $5,000 for evading arrest.
Emergency responders transported the child to Paris Regional Medical Center before transferring the child to another hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing.
