After losing a bet with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith over the recent Stanley Cup hockey game, Texas Governor Greg Abbott honored his end of the deal. The Edmonton Oilers emerged victorious in the NHL Western Conference finals against the Dallas Stars and are now set to face the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals.
“I lost a bet to the Alberta premier where I have to eat a steak from Alberta,” he mentioned in a video shared on social media, showing him enjoying the meal outside. “The best steak I’ve ever had from Canada. Must be from a cow raised in Texas,” he joked.
In response, Ms. Smith expressed, “I hope you enjoyed that delicious Alberta beef. Thanks for being a great sport with our bet too!”
On May 21, Ms. Smith challenged Governor Abbott on social media as the Oilers geared up to face the Stars in a playoff match.
“A bet’s a bet,” he declared in the post.
“Yes Oilers, you’re Canada’s team now,” Mr. Eby expressed in the video. “Go get ’em. We hope you win. Bring the Stanley Cup home to Canada.”
The Oilers and Panthers have seven games remaining to determine the trophy holder, with the first game scheduled for June 8 in Florida.
