A man in Texas has been sentenced to death by a jury for the brutal killing and dismemberment of three individuals whose bodies were discovered in a burning dumpster in Fort Worth in 2021.
Jason Thornburg, 44, was found guilty of capital murder by a Tarrant County jury last month in connection to the deaths of David Lueras, 42, Lauren Phillips, 34, and Maricruz Mathis, 33. Thornburg had confessed to the police about his involvement in the killings, as stated in his arrest warrant.
Prosecutor Amy Allin described Thornburg as “evil” during the trial.
The arrest warrant also revealed that Thornburg admitted to the murder of his roommate and girlfriend.
Mark Jewell, 61, Thornburg’s roommate, was found dead in a house fire earlier that year. Thornburg’s girlfriend, Tanya Begay, a Navajo woman from Gallup, New Mexico, disappeared after a trip to Arizona with Thornburg in 2017.
Thornburg confessed to having extensive knowledge of the Bible and believed he was summoned to “commit sacrifices,” according to the arrest warrant.
His defense team sought to prove his insanity as a defense during the trial.
