Houston Police are on the hunt for a man who crashed his car into a ditch at 100 mph and fled the scene, leaving his injured family behind.
The father was driving with his wife and four children when their SUV collided with a pickup truck, as reported by local news outlets.
HPD stated that surveillance footage captured the man’s Ford Expedition speeding on Yale Street when a Chevy Avalanche truck turned in front of the Expedition, causing the crash.
The impact of the crash caused the Expedition, with the family inside, to flip into the ditch.
Investigators estimate that the SUV was traveling at around 100 miles per hour at the time of the accident.
An 8-year-old child was ejected from the vehicle, as reported by FOX 26.
Police noted that the other children appeared to be toddlers.
While the occupants of the pickup truck were unharmed, the SUV driver’s family members have been hospitalized, with two in serious condition and three in critical condition.
HPD mentioned that the driver of the Expedition fled the scene after the crash and was picked up by another car.
“I have no idea what was going through his mind at the time. I don’t know if there was some other reason that he felt he needed to flee,” said Capt. Ryan Watson, as reported by KTRK.
“The investigators are following leads and will track him down to get some answers and find out what’s going on.”
Authorities are still searching for the driver of the Expedition.
