A Texas Jerky Seller Threatens Capital One Office Over Debt
An affidavit from the FBI reveals that Taylor Bullard, a Texas jerky seller, allegedly threatened to show up at a Capital One office with “a machete and gasoline” and commit unforgivable acts over a $543 debt.
According to the FBI affidavit obtained by The Independent, Bullard, 34, had a history of making similar threats against other companies in the past, including threats to release anthrax and shoot up an office with an AK-47.
On December 12, Bullard emailed Capital One’s collection agency claiming that he had already paid back the $543 debt they were pursuing him for. In the email, he expressed frustration and anger, stating that the debt had ruined his ability to buy a home.
In the email, Bullard allegedly threatened to show up at a Capital One location with a machete and gasoline if they didn’t call him. He also mentioned targeting the people and companies that he believed had ruined his life.
Investigators found evidence of at least three other incidents where Bullard had threatened corporations he felt had wronged him, including threats of releasing anthrax and committing violence with a firearm.
Bullard was arrested by US Marshals in Houston on December 20 and is now facing a charge of sending threatening interstate communications. If convicted, he could receive up to five years in prison.
He has been released on a $25,000 bond and will be tried in Virginia, where Capital One’s headquarters are located. No attorney was listed for him, and attempts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful.
Capital One did not respond to requests for comment regarding the incident.
This arrest comes at a time when American corporations are on edge following the recent killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, allegedly motivated by anger at the medical insurance industry.
