Following a debate performance by President Joe Biden that was widely criticized, members of his campaign team are pushing back against Democratic critics. They are responding to expressions of grief, dread, and fear over the debate with mockery aimed at former allies.
In a fundraising email sent on Saturday night, deputy Biden campaign manager Rob Flaherty criticized “self-important Podcasters,” referring to the hosts of “Pod Save America” who were vocal about their concerns in a recent podcast episode.
The campaign is dismissing these concerns as unwarranted, but some argue that these criticisms are valid. Critics are not questioning Biden’s ability to be president but are concerned about his ability to change the dynamics of the race leading up to November.
Even Democratic strategist James Carville has expressed doubts about Biden’s candidacy, stating that he believes the nominee should be someone else. Despite potential backlash for his comments, Carville stands by his opinion.
While some prominent Democrats are rallying support for Biden, others are engaging in serious conversations about the best path forward for the party. Regardless of the outcome, the party aims to remain unified and focused on defeating authoritarianism and reaction in the country.
