A woman named Patricia Sierra, aged 47, was arrested for stealing a casket with a body still inside from a Las Vegas funeral home on August 27. She claimed that she blacked out from drinking six beers and did not remember anything about the incident.
Sierra is facing charges of burglary, grand larceny, and disturbing human remains in connection with the theft, which was captured on surveillance footage.
The incident was reported to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police when a body was found lying face down in front of the Affordable Cremation & Burial Service funeral home, with the casket abandoned on the nearby sidewalk.
Upon investigation, officers discovered the body with its feet covered with plastic bags lying face down on some rocks near the front walkway of the property.
The deceased individual had arrived at the funeral home on August 20 for a viewing scheduled on August 26, the day before the theft occurred.
After reviewing surveillance footage, it was revealed that Sierra broke into the funeral home by shattering the front window and then proceeded to drag the casket out of the viewing room and out of the front door before leaving the premises.
