A Texas Tech graduate is now breathing on her own after a two-month-long battle for her life following a tragic hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of her roommate, as shared by her family.
Camryn Herriage, 23, had been on a ventilator since Feb. 11, but her uncle recently provided an optimistic update on her recovery, stating, “Camryn has been breathing on her own for over 24 hours!” on Facebook.
Her uncle mentioned that there is hope for Camryn to be moved out of the ICU and into a regular room in the hospital within the next week or so, indicating positive progress in her recovery.
The hit-and-run crash that left Camryn fighting for her life also tragically claimed the life of her roommate, Sara House, 22, while injuring several of their friends.
The incident involved Carmen Guerrero, 27, who allegedly rammed her Ford pickup truck into the vehicle carrying Camryn and her friends while they were stopped at a red light in Dallas.
Guerrero fled the scene on foot after the crash, but was later arrested by Dallas police 11 days later. She faces multiple charges, including manslaughter and could potentially be sentenced to up to 50 years in prison if found guilty.
Camryn, a recent Texas Tech graduate, had moved into a Dallas apartment with her friends and worked at a social media management and branding company. Her close-knit group has been devastated by the tragic events, with Camryn’s sister expressing the impact of the incident on their lives.
