Tragic Accident in Ecuadorian Amazon Leaves Ten Dead
QUITO, Ecuador—Authorities in Ecuador have reported a tragic accident in the Amazonian province of Morona Santiago, where a truck carrying ten people fell into a ravine, resulting in the death of all passengers except for a 3-year-old girl.
Law enforcement officials have yet to determine the cause of the accident, which occurred on Sunday morning. The vehicle came to a rest next to the Paute River, with photos released by the Ecuador’s Integrated Security Service showing the overturned truck surrounded by rocks on the riverbank.
With roads across Ecuador experiencing heavy traffic during a five-day holiday period tied to the Day of the Dead, the accident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of travel, particularly in remote areas.
