Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is currently in Hinton, Alta., to receive an update on the Jasper wildfire situation.
Trudeau’s itinerary includes a visit to the mobile incident command centre on Monday, where he will also meet with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland, and Jasper evacuees.
However, he is not scheduled to tour the town of Jasper itself.
Following the evacuation of over 20,000 people from the town and Jasper National Park nearly two weeks ago, significant destruction occurred as the wildfire approached the area, resulting in the loss of one-third of the town’s buildings.
Tragically, a Calgary firefighter lost his life over the weekend when a tree fell on him during firefighting efforts.
Expressing his deep sorrow, Trudeau conveyed his condolences to the firefighter’s family, friends, and colleagues.
