For many decades, New Jersey has been a stronghold for the Democratic party, with the last Republican presidential candidate to win in the state being George H. W. Bush.
Recently, former President Donald Trump announced his support for Mendham borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner in the upcoming U.S. Senate primary elections in New Jersey.
Despite initially wanting to stay out of the race, President Trump decided to endorse Ms. Glassner due to her qualities and her stance against his opponent. He urged voters to support her in the upcoming election.
It was unclear whether Mr. Bashaw had the backing of Republican Chris Christie, as there have been tensions between Mr. Christie and President Trump in the past.
The Republican primary for the Senate seat in New Jersey is set for June 4, with Mr. Bashaw, a hotel entrepreneur, promising to focus on border security and anti-crime measures if elected.
Ms. Glassner is running against multiple GOP challengers, including Mr. Bashaw, while the Democratic primary features three candidates vying for Senator Bob Mendez’s seat.
New Jersey Presidential Battle
New Jersey has been historically dominated by the Democratic party, with President Trump being the last Republican candidate to win in 1988. Despite his loss in the state in 2020, President Trump expressed confidence in flipping New Jersey to the Republican party in the upcoming elections.
Recent polls, however, show President Biden leading in New Jersey, with a significant voter support base. Despite President Trump’s optimism, the polls suggest a challenging path to victory for him in the state.
According to a post on May 12, the group mentioned that President Trump lost these states by 29 percent and 23 percent respectively. Some Republicans believe that there is a chance for President Trump to win in New Jersey this time. Michael Byrne, a Republican supporter of the former president’s efforts in the state, stated that despite popular belief, New Jersey is not a hopelessly liberal state. While New Jersey may not be a primary focus for the Trump campaign, Byrne mentioned that his group is supplementing the campaign’s efforts in the state. The aim is to engage with tens of thousands of potential activists who have a genuine admiration for President Trump and use that momentum to help him secure victory in New Jersey.
