Donald Trump has secured a victory in Nevada, flipping the state nearly three days after being declared the winner of the 2024 presidential race. The call came at 9:15 p.m. PT on November 8th. Trump has now won six of the seven swing states and is currently leading in Arizona, the final battleground yet to be called.
This win marks the first time a Republican has won the Silver State since 2004. In previous elections, Trump lost to Hillary Clinton in 2016 by 2.42 percentage points and to Joe Biden in 2020 by 2.4 points.
Republicans had a strong belief that Trump would succeed in Nevada this time around, especially after a significant lead in in-person early voting and registration gains since 2020.
Despite Kamala Harris consistently leading in Nevada polls since becoming the Democratic nominee in July, recent surveys showed Trump gaining momentum and becoming a clear favorite in the state.
Several polls conducted in the lead-up to the election indicated Trump’s lead, with one showing him ahead by 5.5 percentage points and another by 6 percentage points.
The Associated Press officially called the race with 96 percent of the ballots counted. Trump secured 50.7 percent of the vote with 724,498 votes, while Harris received 47.4 percent with 678,399 votes.
Trump not only won Washoe County but also gained significant support in Clark County, where a majority of the state’s residents and voters reside. Despite Harris leading in Clark County, her margin was not enough to overcome Trump’s support across the state.
