Former President Donald Trump stated in a recent interview that he does not envision running for president again if he loses the 2024 election to Democratic Vice President and presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Details regarding the two assassination attempts were briefly mentioned by Trump in the interviews. The most recent incident took place on Sept. 15 while he was golfing in Florida. The FBI classified both incidents as assassination attempts against the former president.
The suspect in the Florida incident, Ryan Routh, is scheduled for a court appearance on Sept. 23, facing firearms-related charges. Authorities recovered a rifle, backpacks, food, and a camera at the scene.
Routh, who is believed to have camped at the golf course perimeter for 12 hours, has not had a motive publicly disclosed. Social media posts suggest his support for Ukraine in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and critical views of Trump.
In a separate shooting incident in Pennsylvania, Thomas Matthew Crooks was identified as the shooter and was shot and killed shortly after targeting Trump.
