Rep. Mike Waltz, a vocal critic of communist China, has been chosen by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as his national security adviser. Waltz has been outspoken about Beijing’s espionage and human rights abuses, stating that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses the “biggest threat America has ever faced.” He is a member of the House China Task Force and has a background in military and defense policy. Waltz will play a crucial role in briefing Trump on national security matters and coordinating with various agencies.
Waltz has also been actively involved in addressing the CCP’s espionage activities, particularly through the “China Initiative.” He has raised concerns about Chinese espionage and human rights abuses, including the detention of Uyghurs in internment camps and the suppression of democratic rights in Hong Kong. Waltz has called for a U.S. boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing to protest against the CCP’s actions.
In addition, Waltz has advocated for the release of individuals detained by the CCP, such as Uyghur doctor Gulshan Abbas and Falun Gong practitioner Zhou Deyong. He continues to push for accountability and action against the Chinese regime’s violations of human rights and international norms. The CCP has been accused of subjecting Falun Gong practitioners to arbitrary detention, torture, sexual assault, and slave labor since launching a persecution campaign in 1999 to eradicate the group. On June 4, 2023, Waltz commemorated the 34th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre by sharing the famous Tank Man photograph. He highlighted the bravery of those who stood up to communism at Tiananmen Square. In April 2021, intruders attacked The Epoch Times’ Hong Kong printing plant, damaging equipment in an attempt to silence the news outlet. Waltz condemned the attack as evidence of the CCP’s systematic attack on human rights.
Waltz is a member of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus and advocates for strengthening support for Taiwan’s self-defense. He emphasizes the importance of arming and training Taiwan to deter China and prevent history from repeating itself. The CCP views Taiwan as part of its territory and has threatened war to take over the island. CIA Director William Burns warned of China’s serious intent to invade Taiwan by 2027.
Waltz co-sponsored the Taiwan Invasion Prevention Act, which aims to strengthen Taiwan’s ability to resist Chinese aggression. He traveled to Taiwan to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and emphasized the United States’ support for Taiwan’s fight for freedom and human rights. In his book “Hard Truths: Think and Lead Like a Green Beret,” Waltz outlines a strategy to prevent war with China, including supporting Taiwan and modernizing naval capabilities.
Taiwan faces challenges in participating in international organizations like the World Health Organization due to Beijing’s opposition. Waltz has advocated for Taiwan to have a seat at the table to share its expertise in fighting against COVID-19. Please rewrite the text for me.
