According to a report from the New York Post, attorneys for Donald Trump are contemplating seeking the recusal of the judge overseeing his hush money case once again. They claim that the judge’s daughter and her Democratic consulting firm have profited significantly from the prosecution of the former president.
The judge in question is Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan, and his daughter, Loren Merchan, is the president and partner of Authentic Campaigns, a Chicago-based firm. The firm’s top clients include U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and the Senate Majority PAC, both of which have raised millions in campaign donations using Mr. Trump’s case in their solicitation emails.
Trump’s spokesman, Steven Cheung, stated that Authentic Campaigns, and therefore the judge’s daughter, are profiting from what he calls a “sham attack” against President Trump. He believes that Judge Merchan should recuse himself to avoid any conflicts of interest.
President Trump has not yet commented on the New York Post report but expressed his frustration with Merchan and his daughter on Truth Social. He accused Judge Merchan of being biased against him and criticized his daughter’s ties to Democratic organizations.
The hush money case is set to begin in Manhattan on April 15, with claims that Schiff’s campaign raised $20 million and the Senate Majority PAC raised $73.6 million through fundraising emails related to the case.
Last summer, the Trump team filed for Merchan to recuse himself, citing concerns about his impartiality due to his daughter’s political work. However, Justice Merchan denied these claims, stating that they were speculative and did not meet the legal threshold for recusal.
In his ruling, Merchan maintained that he could remain fair and impartial and that stepping down would not serve the public interest. The case continues to be a point of contention between Trump’s legal team and the judge overseeing the proceedings. Please rewrite the following sentence:
“The cat jumped onto the table and knocked over a vase.”
“The feline leaped onto the table and caused a vase to tip over.”
