BYRON CENTER, Mich.—Former President Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), his running mate, addressed the “affordability crisis” in America during separate speeches on Aug. 14. Trump vowed to reduce energy costs by 50% within the first 12 to 18 months of his new term if reelected. He emphasized rapid approvals for new energy infrastructure to achieve energy independence.
Vance highlighted the persistent inflation affecting groceries, housing costs, and gasoline prices despite a recent decrease in the overall inflation rate. He expressed concern over Americans struggling financially and losing ownership in their country.
Both Trump and Vance advocated for drilling for oil and natural gas as a solution to lower fuel prices and stimulate the economy. They criticized the Biden–Harris administration’s focus on solar and wind energy, which they believe has led to higher fuel costs and economic repercussions.
Vance emphasized the importance of bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. and keeping money within the country to strengthen the economy. He raised questions about Vice President Kamala Harris’s response to inflation and lack of public appearances following Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race.
Other speakers at the event urged supporters to mobilize and ensure every vote counts in the upcoming election. The focus was on providing relief to those struggling with rising prices and financial challenges.
