Chad Chronister, who currently serves as the Hillsborough County Sheriff in Florida, has decided to withdraw his nomination to become the head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) next year. This decision comes just days after President-elect Donald Trump nominated him for the role.
In a statement posted on X on Dec. 3, Chronister explained that he made the choice after carefully considering the significant responsibility that comes with leading the DEA. He expressed his commitment to his current position in law enforcement, stating that there is still important work to be done in Hillsborough County.
“I have several initiatives that I am dedicated to seeing through for the benefit of the citizens of Hillsborough County,” Chronister said. “While I am grateful for the nomination and the support from the American people, I believe that my focus should remain on serving as Sheriff of Hillsborough County.”
This decision by Chronister reflects his dedication to his current role and his commitment to serving the community.
