The former gang leader accused of killing Tupac Shakur is now facing new battery charges after a prison brawl with another inmate that was caught on camera.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 61, got into a physical altercation with fellow inmate Rochlon Hamilton at the Clark County Detention Center in Nevada. Surveillance footage shows Davis tackling Hamilton to the ground and engaging in a fight before both inmates were pepper sprayed by prison guards.
Davis, who is also facing murder charges for his alleged role in Tupac’s death, claimed he was “standing his ground” during the fight and refused to speak without his attorney present.
Both Davis and Hamilton are now facing battery charges, with Davis appearing in court and scheduled for a further hearing on Feb. 11.
Despite Davis’ attempts to have the murder charges against him dismissed, a judge ruled that he must stand trial in Las Vegas. The trial is set to begin on March 17.
In a memoir, Davis admitted to providing the gun used in Tupac’s shooting, which resulted in the rapper’s death. Tupac died at the age of 25, while Marion “Suge” Knight survived the attack and is currently serving a prison sentence for a separate crime.
Despite the passage of time and the deaths of other suspects involved, Davis remains the primary accused in Tupac’s murder case.
Authorities have never recovered the weapon or vehicle used in the shooting, adding further complexity to the investigation.
