An Arizona family is grieving the tragic loss of twin sisters, aged 3, who tragically drowned in a backyard swimming pool in Phoenix, Arizona, last Friday.
Their father made frantic efforts to revive the girls, identified as Valentina and Penelope Ruiz, according to Fox 10 Phoenix, but unfortunately, they passed away at the hospital.
Phoenix authorities stated to ABC 15 that the incident appears to be a case of accidental drowning and no foul play is suspected at this time.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene on Lower Buckeye Road and 63rd Avenue following a report of a child in the pool, finding both girls unconscious upon arrival.
Phoenix Fire Capt. Rob McDade mentioned that the father of the twins dialed 911, but the duration the children spent in the pool remains unclear. The pool itself lacked a protective fence.
McDade described the father’s efforts to perform CPR on both children as a harrowing and challenging task. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, Valentina and Penelope could not be saved.
