Reports from local prosecutors in Mexico City indicate that two elderly women from Arizona were tragically shot dead in a vehicle along a highway in Mexico’s northern Sonora state. The victims, identified as Enedina, 72, and Ubaldina, 82, were found in an overturned white Nissan Pathfinder on the side of the highway. The incident was reported at 10:30 a.m.
According to a local security source, the women held dual U.S.-Mexican nationality. The stretch of highway where they were discovered, running from Sonoyta to Caborca, is known for violence and migrant trafficking towards the United States.
Both women were originally from Caborca, as confirmed by state prosecutors. Upon responding to the scene, National Guard and army officers found a navy blue Ford F-150 that had been reported stolen, along with an AK-47 and ammunition.
Sonora state prosecutors have mobilized security forces from all levels of government in a coordinated effort to locate and apprehend the perpetrators behind this heinous act, with the assistance of specialized air and ground units.
