United Airlines reported that during the incident, one of the injured passengers was not seated. The event took place on United Flight 2428 en route to San Francisco from Newark, New Jersey, on Sept. 19. The plane altered its descent to avoid a midair collision within Oakland Air Route Traffic Control Center Airspace, as per the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s information to The Epoch Times.
The aircraft, with the seatbelt sign activated, slowed its descent due to the presence of another aircraft at a lower altitude. Despite this adjustment, the flight safely landed at San Francisco International Airport. Two passengers sustained injuries and were promptly taken to a hospital for treatment, with one of them not being seated at the time of the incident.
United Airlines expressed gratitude towards its crew for ensuring the safety of both employees and passengers during the unforeseen circumstances. The total number of individuals on board the flight remained unspecified. The FAA’s incident report indicated that one passenger suffered a serious injury, while another had a minor injury.
The FAA confirmed that there was no breach of safe separation and initiated an investigation into the occurrence, categorizing it as an accident. This incident followed a similar one involving two Delta Air Lines planes earlier in the month. In that instance, a Delta Airbus A350 and a CRJ-900 regional jet operated by Endeavor Airlines, a Delta subsidiary, collided at Atlanta’s airport.
Delta Airlines reported damage to the tail of the regional jet and the wing of the A350, resulting in passengers being returned to the terminal. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The aircraft involved were relocated for further evaluation in maintenance hangars.
Similarly, Alaska Airlines Flight 369 had to abort its takeoff at Nashville International Airport on Sept. 12 after Southwest Airlines Flight 2029 was cleared to cross the same runway. The FAA disclosed that the Alaska plane’s tires blew out as the pilot executed a rapid stop to prevent a potential collision with the Southwest plane. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the aircraft will undergo thorough inspections.
