SCRANTON, Pa.—Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the Pennsylvania ammunition factory that is producing critical munitions for Ukraine’s fight against Russian ground forces. Ukraine has already received over 3 million of these shells from the U.S. Vera Kowal Krewson, a first-generation Ukrainian American, expressed her support for the plant, stating, “It’s here to protect the world.” Laryssa Salak, whose parents also immigrated from Ukraine, highlighted the importance of American support for Ukraine’s defense.
Zelenskyy has been advocating for the use of longer-range missile systems in Ukraine’s defense strategy. However, the U.S. has not yet lifted restrictions on this request due to strategic concerns. Russian President Putin has threatened consequences if Ukraine is allowed to use such weapons.
To address the increasing demand for ammunition, the U.S. has ramped up production at facilities like the Scranton plant. Pentagon officials and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro joined Zelenskyy at the plant to discuss ongoing support for Ukraine.
The U.S. has been a major donor to Ukraine, providing a wide range of military assistance. This support is crucial in deterring further Russian aggression and maintaining stability in the region.
