In September, I discussed the case of Doe v. Columbia Univ. (S.D.N.Y.), where allegations of sexual assault from 2012 to 2015 were raised by a former Columbia University undergraduate student. The plaintiff sought to proceed pseudonymously due to sensitive health information in the Complaint related to a sexual assault and subsequent medical and psychiatric treatment.
After the plaintiff’s motion to proceed under a pseudonym, the Clerk of Court restricted electronic docket access to court users and case participants to protect privacy. I intervened to unseal the Complaint with necessary redactions, which the court granted. The redacted Complaint, now unsealed, can be found here. The plaintiff, a gay black man, alleges wrongful discipline for sexual misconduct, lack of action on his complaints against other students, and various forms of discrimination and emotional distress.
