A shocking new video captures the moment a group of migrant men from Venezuela assaulted and robbed a passenger on a Chicago train in February. One of the men even choked the victim unconscious while the others searched through his pockets.
The suspects – Fernando Loyo-Rodriguez, Wilker Gutierrez Sierra, Carlos Carreno-Carreno, and Yonnier Guasamucare Garcia – approached the 49-year-old victim on a commuter train in Chicago on February 17, engaging him in conversation as seen in surveillance footage obtained by Fox News.
Despite appearing friendly and even sharing a cigarette or joint, the men had ulterior motives.
Suddenly, one of the migrants grabbed the victim, put him in a chokehold, and rendered him unconscious, according to the video.
Police reported that one of the suspects brandished a knife and held it to the victim’s throat while the others searched through his pockets.
The group, all aged between 18 and 22, stole $400 and a cellphone from the victim before fleeing the scene, as per Fox News.
The migrants, who had only been in the country for a short time before the incident, were apprehended around 45 minutes later.
Each man provided a state-funded migrant shelter as their address.
Authorities charged them with robbery, aggravated battery/strangulation, and attempted murder.
During a court appearance in Cook County on Tuesday, Carreno-Carreno, Loyo-Rodriguez, and Guasamucare Garcia were held in custody, while Gutierrez Sierra was released with electronic monitoring.
Their next court date is scheduled for August 28.
Immigration experts mentioned that three of the defendants could face deportation if convicted of a felony.
Over the past two years, approximately 35,000 migrants have been transported to Chicago by bus or plane.
The city is currently accommodating around 13,000 migrants in shelters.
