A Utah Mother Accused of Shooting Husband Appears in Court
A wealthy Utah mother of three, Jennifer Gledhill, faced charges of shooting her husband dead following an argument about an alleged affair. She appeared in court this month as police continue to search for the body of her husband.
Gledhill, 42, pleaded not guilty to murder and waived her right to a preliminary hearing at the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City on Feb. 6.
According to Fox 13, Gledhill confirmed her decision to waive the hearing when asked by Judge Adam Mow. She was seen in court wearing a blue jail jumpsuit, black-framed glasses, and her hair tied back.
The alleged incident occurred after a night of drunken sex where Gledhill admitted to sleeping with another man. She is accused of shooting her 51-year-old husband, Matthew Johnson, in their home in late September following an argument about her affair.
Despite Gledhill allegedly disposing of her husband’s body and reporting him missing, a man came forward with information about the murder. He claimed Gledhill confessed to him about the killing and provided details about how she disposed of the body.
Prosecutors believe Gledhill then engaged in actions to cover up the crime, including cleaning out her car and moving the victim’s vehicle to a different location in the neighborhood.
While investigators have not found Johnson’s body, evidence was found in the couple’s home, including a new mattress, suspicious stains, and a firearm box wrapped in a child’s onesie.
Gledhill is facing multiple charges, including murder, obstruction of justice, and desecration of a human body. The couple was reportedly going through a contentious divorce and custody battle over their three children.
Despite Gledhill’s temporary restraining order against Johnson, a court review found no evidence of abuse, leading to the denial of a permanent measure in September.
Gledhill’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 28 as the investigation into the case continues.
