What’s new in grammar in 2024? Same as in 2023 and likely in 2022. Grammar doesn’t evolve quickly, and the topics discussed here have been covered in previous posts throughout the 13-year history of this blog.
If you want more information on any grammar topics mentioned, use the search icon on the home page to find relevant blog posts. The same “changes” have been around for a while:
- You can end a sentence with a preposition.
- You can start a sentence with a conjunction if it makes sense.
- The distinction between who and whom is still relevant.
- The singular they is acceptable.
- The split infinitive is acceptable.
Teaching grammar as its own subject is important for inductive learning.
There are various lists of grammar rules, but most focus on writing correctly rather than strict rules.
For more details on grammar rules, search the blog posts or consider purchasing a grammar book.
Until next week…
