The White House has outlined a list of legislative priorities for the remainder of President Joe Biden’s term. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre informed reporters that Biden has several goals for the remaining 74 days of his term.
Biden’s goals include keeping the government open, delivering assistance to communities affected by recent disasters, passing the National Defense Authorization Act, filling federal judiciary vacancies, and making federal agency appointments. Jean-Pierre emphasized the importance of confirming well-qualified judicial nominees.
The White House also plans to continue diplomatic efforts to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of hostages. While the possibility of last-minute pardons was not addressed, Jean-Pierre stated that there are no plans for Biden to pardon his son, Hunter, before leaving office.
Despite the disappointment in the election outcome, the White House respects the will of the American people. Biden reaffirmed his decision to step aside in the 2024 race and praised Vice President Harris for her presidential campaign.
There will be a peaceful transfer of power, and the next administration will inherit a strong economy. President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance’s team have not yet reached an agreement with the White House General Services on transition plans. A meeting between Trump and Biden is planned for the near future.
In a recent address to the nation, Biden expressed his commitment to finishing the term strong, stating, “Now we have 74 days to finish the term—our term. Let’s make every day count. That’s the responsibility we have to the American people.”
