The wildfire that compelled 4,700 residents to evacuate their homes in Fort Nelson, B.C., is now officially contained.
According to the BC Wildfire Service’s social media announcement, the 123-square-kilometre fire in northeastern B.C. is not expected to expand beyond its current perimeter.
All evacuation alerts related to the fire have been rescinded.
The Parker Lake inferno approached Fort Nelson on May 10, leading to the evacuation of most of the town.
The fire resulted in the destruction of four homes and inflicted damage on several other properties.
Rainfall and cooler temperatures have enabled crews to diminish the wildfire, which is predominantly smouldering in the ground. However, the service advises residents that they may still observe smoke emanating from the fire’s edges.
