A woman bravely fought off a stranger who attempted to rape her by putting her in a chokehold on a Bronx sidewalk. The terrifying incident, captured on video, occurred at Vireo Avenue and East 235th Street in the Woodlawn Heights neighborhood around 1:30 a.m. on May 24.
The attacker, identified as Miguel Rivera, 45, approached the 26-year-old victim from behind and forcefully wrestled her to the ground without uttering a word. The victim managed to resist the assault, but Rivera, who is still at large, fled the scene on a blue scooter.
Despite suffering minor scrapes, the victim declined medical attention at the scene. This disturbing attack follows similar sex crimes that have recently occurred in the Bronx.
On May 18, a 15-year-old girl fought off an assailant in Pelham Bay Park who attempted to rape her in a wooded area. In another horrifying incident on May 1, Kashaan Parks, 39, lassoed a woman with a belt, dragged her unconscious, and raped her between parked cars in the South Bronx.
