A woman, Michelle Troconis, was sentenced to more than 14 years in prison for her involvement in the murder of Jennifer Dulos, who disappeared during a contentious divorce in Connecticut. Troconis, 49, was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, hindering prosecution, evidence tampering, and other charges related to Dulos’s disappearance in 2019.
Fotis Dulos, Jennifer’s estranged husband, was accused of killing her and driving away with her body. He died by suicide in 2020. Troconis, who was living with Dulos at the time of the disappearance, maintained her innocence throughout the trial.
The sentencing judge issued a 20-year prison sentence, suspended after 14.5 years, with an additional five years of probation for Troconis. Jennifer Dulos’s family and friends expressed disappointment with the length of the sentence.
During the sentencing, Jennifer Dulos’s family and supporters filled the courtroom, including her five children and mother. Dulos has not been seen since dropping her children off at school in 2019.
Witnesses spoke of the impact of Dulos’s death on their lives, with her son Petros expressing regret for not being a better son. The disappearance of Jennifer Dulos garnered widespread attention through documentaries and a made-for-TV movie.
Troconis’s family and friends described her as a caring individual and asked for leniency from the judge. Troconis herself expressed remorse for her involvement with Fotis Dulos and stated her faith sustained her during the ordeal.
Troconis plans to appeal the convictions, maintaining that there was insufficient evidence linking her to the murder plot. Authorities believe Fotis Dulos killed Jennifer out of frustration with their divorce proceedings.
At the trial, evidence was presented showing Troconis accompanying Fotis Dulos to discard trash bags containing items linked to Jennifer Dulos. Despite her claims of ignorance regarding the contents of the bags, prosecutors allege she was complicit in the murder.
Another individual, Kent Mawhinney, a friend of Fotis Dulos, is awaiting trial on a murder conspiracy charge in connection to Jennifer Dulos’s disappearance.
