In recent years, the term zoomer has become popular as slang for individuals born in Generation Z. While the exact origin is uncertain, it is believed to have emerged around 2016, possibly originating from discussions on 4chan message boards. Prior to this, the term was used to describe highly active Baby Boomers or individuals who move quickly. The usage of the term increased significantly in November 2019, coinciding with the rise of the OK Boomer memes, where zoomer was introduced as a modern-day counterpart. Although not yet included in dictionaries, Merriam-Webster has added it to their “Words We’re Watching” list. Given the prevalence of online interactions through platforms like Zoom, the term is likely to remain relevant in current discourse.
