In the past year, Tim Hortons has delighted vacationing Canadians with a boat drive-thru, brought back the beloved Dutchie doughnut, and introduced flatbread pizzas.
However, the biggest surprise is yet to come this summer, as Tim Hortons celebrates its 60th anniversary on May 17. The fast-food giant will venture into unexpected territory by presenting “The Last Timbit,” a musical featuring a lineup of Canadian artists at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto this June.
The musical is loosely inspired by a 2010 snowstorm that stranded drivers on a highway east of Sarnia, Ontario, forcing some to seek refuge at a local Tim Hortons.
The idea for the theatrical production came from marketing firm Gut, which was given the freedom to come up with something that embodied the connection Tim Hortons has with its customers.
Despite the unconventional nature of the project, Tim Hortons embraced the idea and enlisted the help of Canadian talents to bring the musical to life.
The play will premiere in Toronto and feature a talented cast, including familiar names from the theatre world and TV. The musical will be a unique experience that merges humor and emotion, centered around a mother and daughter affected by the storm.
As Tim Hortons steps into the world of theatre with “The Last Timbit,” it marks a bold move for the brand and a significant investment in the arts amidst challenges faced by arts organizations in securing corporate funding.
With months of preparation and rehearsals underway, the musical promises to be a memorable and entertaining experience for both franchisees and the public.
Tickets will be available for sale starting Friday. Attendees who purchase seats will have the opportunity to purchase Tims-themed merchandise from Roots Corp., the play’s wardrobe partner. Additionally, a concession stand with popular Tim Hortons items such as Timbits will be available, according to Ms. Bagozzi. Mr. Rubinoff added, “Those treats will not disappoint, so you can indulge in them without worry.”
