A Florida man, who had dreams of joining the police force, has confessed to sexually assaulting his cousin during a job interview with a police department and is now facing a potential life sentence.
Stephen Bodley, 26, was found guilty by a jury in Orange County last week of sexual battery on a child, as announced by State Attorney Andrew Bain’s office in a press release.
Bodley disclosed his involvement in “playing sexual games” during a police officer application with the Apopka Police Department and reiterated the crime during an interview.
“The certified voice stress analysis examiner conducted a voice stress examination on Bodley,” Bain stated. “During the examination, the examiner prompted Bodley to elaborate on concerning responses he provided in a pre-test questionnaire.”
Bodley revealed details of sexually abusing a child years ago and admitted to it when asked for further explanation.
Detectives located the victim’s mother, who confirmed the close relationship between Bodley and the victim, as reported by the Tampa Bay Times, citing an affidavit.
Fox News Digital has reached out to prosecutors for comment.
The victim, a female, reported the abuse to the Florida Department of Children and Families, stating that it occurred over several years, starting when Bodley was around 14 years old and continuing until he was approximately 19, according to the newspaper.
Bodley’s attorney requested that his admission not be used as evidence during the trial, but the request was denied by the judge.
He is set to receive his sentence on June 24.
The verdict carries a potential life imprisonment sentence.
