Six Migrants Involved in Attack on NYPD Officers Offered Plea Deals
During a court hearing in Manhattan, six of the migrants accused of viciously attacking two NYPD officers in Times Square in January were offered plea deals. Additionally, it was revealed that one of the accused individuals, Yohenry Brito, was rearrested for petit larceny while out on bail.
Yohenry Brito, 24, who had been remanded after his initial arrest, was arrested again last week for petit larceny after a Brooklyn priest posted his $15,000 cash bail in February, as confirmed by Judge Laura Wood in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday.
Judge Wood expressed her frustration at Brito’s rearrest and warned him that any further incidents would result in him being placed behind bars. She emphasized that any violation of the law would lead to severe consequences, including high bail amounts that would prevent him from being released.
Brito’s recent arrest involved an attempted theft of children’s clothing and fragrances from Macy’s Herald Square flagship store. He was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, both misdemeanors.
News of Brito’s re-arrest coincided with plea deals being offered to Ulises Bohorquez, Andres Gomez-Izquiel, Kelvin Servita Arocha, Wilson Juarez, and Yorman Reveron by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. The proposed deals include serving jail time in exchange for pleading guilty to various charges related to the assault on the NYPD officers.
Edgarlis Vegas has not been offered a plea deal at this time, and the defendants’ attorneys have not yet accepted the proposed plea deals. The case is set to continue, with a trial date to be scheduled if no agreement is reached by June 18.
The seven migrants involved in the attack on the NYPD officers were indicted following the shocking incident captured on camera in Times Square. The video showed a mob kicking the officers before fleeing the scene. Juarez and Servita-Arocha are alleged members of the Venezuelan street gang “Tren de Aragua” and are the subjects of ICE detainers.
