A Papa John’s Employee of the Month Fatally Shot Outside His Home
Tragedy struck in the Bronx as Idriss Cherif El Farissy, a married Papa John’s worker who had been awarded “employee of the month” twice, was fatally shot in the head during an apparent mugging outside his home. The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. as El Farissy parked his car outside his East 176th Street apartment in Crotona Park East after finishing his delivery driver shift.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and screams, with one neighbor mentioning that El Farissy was coming home from work and didn’t even get a chance to open the gate before the attack. The assailant, wearing a black hoodie, rifled through El Farissy’s pockets before fleeing on a bike. El Farissy, originally from Morocco, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Colleagues described El Farissy as a dedicated and kind individual who had only been working at the pizza joint for about 8 months. He had won the “employee of the month” award twice during his short tenure. His coworkers were shocked by the senseless act of violence, emphasizing that El Farissy had no issues with anyone and was always a positive presence at work.
El Farissy, who spoke multiple languages and was described as a good person by those who knew him, had plans to travel and help his family. He had just moved onto the block with his wife and was looking forward to a vacation in the Dominican Republic. His family and colleagues were devastated by the loss of such a beloved individual.
The aftermath of the tragic incident was visible as FDNY members cleaned blood off the sidewalk, and police stood near El Farissy’s home where a white Nissan Altima was parked. Neighbors expressed shock and sadness over the loss of a “really nice guy” who had recently moved in with his wife and kept to himself.
